Dry Eye Clinic

Moving beyond eye drops to treat the root cause of chronic dry eyes.

We are proud to introduce our dedicated Dry Eye Clinic at Vision North Eye Care. If you suffer from gritty, burning, or consistently tired eyes, you aren’t just dealing with a minor inconvenience. Our practice has the latest clinical-grade technology to offer diagnostic-driven, personalised treatment plans that restore long-term comfort to your vision.

What is Dry Eye Disease?

Dry eye is a chronic, progressive ocular surface condition. It occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears, or when your tears evaporate too quickly due to a lack of protective oils.

Healthy tears require a precise balance of water, mucus, and oils. When the tiny oil glands in your eyelids (meibomian glands) become blocked or inflamed, your tear film destabilises. Without proper clinical diagnosis and targeted intervention, chronic dry eye can lead to fluctuating vision, contact lens intolerance, and ongoing physical discomfort.

What are my treatment options?

Every treatment plan is tailored to your specific type of dry eye. Based on your results, your optometrist may recommend:

  • Prescription or preservative-free lubricating eye drops
  • Warm compress therapy with a Bruder Mask to improve oil gland function
  • Eyelid hygiene to reduce inflammation and bacteria
  • Nutritional supplements to support tear quality
  • In-office light therapy for meibomian gland dysfunction
  • Lifestyle and environmental changes to reduce dry eye triggers
  • Ongoing monitoring to track your progress and adjust treatment as needed

Because our Dry Eye Analyser identifies the underlying cause of your symptoms, we can create a treatment plan that’s targeted to your eyes—not just your symptoms

Precision Diagnostics: The Dry Eye Analyser

Effective treatment requires an accurate diagnosis. Our advanced Dry Eye Analyser is a non-invasive diagnostic system that maps your unique tear profile. Instead of guessing, our optometrists precisely evaluate:

  • Lipid Layer Thickness: Measuring the protective oil layer that prevents tear evaporation.
  • Meibomian Gland Imaging: High-resolution structural scanning to detect gland blockages or loss.
  • Tear Break-Up Time: Analysing exactly how quickly your tears evaporate.
  • Tear Mensicus Volume: Measuring how deep the tear water pool is

This data allows our clinical team to pinpoint the underlying cause of your discomfort and track your exact treatment progress over time.

Frequently asked questions:

Do I need a referral for the dry eye clinic?

No referral is required for the Dry Eye Clinic. We recommend a full comprehensive eye examination be done at least 6 months prior to your Dry Eye Clinic. This can be completed through us, or if with another Optometrist, we recommend a report be sent to us. This allows the most accurate diagnosis and management of your dry eyes

When will I get my report?

A comprehensive Dry Eye Report including your results and management will be provided on the same day as your appointment.

Can I wear make-up to my appointment?

As the Dry Eye Analyser will allow a comprehensive look at your eyes including eyelids and eyelashes, it is recommended no makeup is worn to the appointment.

Are there any costs involved?

The Dry Eye Clinic initial assessment costs $150 for a 1 hour appointment, including a full work up with the Dry Eye Analyser, clinical testing, report and management and treatment recommendations. Any treatment options are priced separately. Any follow up or review appointments are bulk billed with a Medicare card, or are $35 for a private patient.

Where is the Dry Eye Clinic Located?

Our Dry Eye Analyser is at our Mill Park Clinic. Most treatments can occur at home or at both clinics. Our Eye-light which includes Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is located at our Reservoir Clinic.
