Considering Orthokeratology in Mill Park?
What is Ortho-K?
Orthokeratology (ortho-K) is a non-surgical technique which uses a contact lens mould to reshape the cornea while you sleep. This allows you to wake up and see clearly without the need for any visual aid. Unlike laser surgery, the therapy is non-invasive and completely reversible once you stop the treatment.
At Vision North Eyecare, we offer orthokeratology in Mill Park to help active individuals enjoy clear vision throughout the day, whether at work, outdoors, or playing sports.
Orthokeratology gives active individuals in Mill Park the freedom to go about their day – whether at work, during recreation, or playing sport – without the hassle of spectacles or daytime contact lenses. While you sleep, the specially designed Ortho-K lens gently reshapes the cornea. These changes occur gradually and may take 1–2 weeks to achieve optimal vision correction.
One of the key benefits of orthokeratology is its ability to slow the progression of myopia (short-sightedness) in younger patients. As a non-permanent treatment, the lenses can be updated as your prescription changes, making orthokeratology a flexible vision solution for families in Mill Park.
What does the fitting process involve?
Our optometrists will go through the pros and cons of contacts lens wear with you, and once you have decided to proceed with orthoK the lenses usually take 2-3 weeks to arrive.
We will book you in for a fitting and teach appointment, followed by appointments 1 day, 1 week and 1 month after this. When you are stable, we usually see you every 4-6 months.

Am I suitable for ortho-K?
There is no age limit on ortho-K- children may be suitable candidates, with parents able to help with inserting, removing and cleaning for the lens. Your prescription, as well as the shape of your cornea will determine if you are suitable. Generally, people who are shortsighted up to -5.00DS and with mild astigmatism will be eligible.
We will need to take a scan of the front of the eye, called corneal topography, to find out which lenses will best.
